Strong Female Leads

Anna Silk | Strong Female Leads

Anna Silk played the succubus Bo on Lost Girl for 5 seasons and she is 100% as charming and funny in real life as when playing her television counterpart. I also feel like she would be REALLY good in a disaster situation?! We discuss the Lost Girl Rewatch Podcast, Bo’s critical combo of high ponytail and quiet strength, the respectful art of chi sucking, and the reciprocal relationship between the show and its fans.

Subscribe to the Lost Girl Rewatch Podcast wherever you get podcasts, get videos of every episode on YouTube, and join the Patreon for EXCLUSIVE content and to support this wonderful show! The podcast revisits the hit supernatural drama along with cast, crew, and her co-host, the equally incredible Rachel Skarsten, who played Tamsin on the show.

Plus, if you subscribe to the Lost Girl Rewatch Podcast on Patreon, you can email me at emily@tastelesspod.com with proof of your patronage and I will give 3 of you the first season of Lost Girl via digital, Blu-ray, or DVD!

Jennifer Esposito | Strong Female Leads

Jennifer Esposito (Awkwafina is Nora from Queens, Crash, Samantha Who?) is not only a talented actress and New York Times bestselling author (whose passage about carrot cake in her book Jennifer's Way made me cry), but also the screenwriter and future director of the film Fresh Kills.

Jennifer discusses the film's exploration of feeling stuck and finding your voice in the context of a mafia movie, a story we never get to see from the women's perspective. This movie is the first to be funded via exclusive NFTs as well as public shares and anyone can get involved.

Jennifer’s eloquence and passion on the subject of diverse filmmaking was a joy and her quest for equality in media and giving people a voice is inspiring. But yes, while listening to this brilliant woman speak about her creative endeavors, I did bring up how much I love The Master of Disguise because I am forever a member of the Turtle Club.

Nicole Parker | Strong Female Leads

Nicole Parker Strong Female Leads

Nicole Parker (The Neighborhood Listen, Wicked, MADtv) is someone who has me in tears laughing every time I watch or listen to her, and her singing is otherworldly. We discuss fake facial hair, the thrill of seeing a musical, and my favorite podcast neighborhood, Dignity Falls. When we get into the celebrities she is best known for impersonating, Nicole shares how her view on impressions has evolved and reflects on the regret she feels regarding her sketches as Britney Spears in particular.

If anyone has a time machine, I would truly like to book it to see Nicole in Funny Girl. Please and thank you.

Iliza Shlesinger (Good On Paper, Unveiled, Spenser Confidential) is a keen-eyed observer of life, and she beautifully showcases her worldview in her new hit film, Good On Paper. Emmanuelle Vaugier | Strong Female Leads

Emmanuelle Vaugier Strong Female Leads

Emmanuelle Vaugier (Lost Girl, Saw 2, Two and a Half Men) plays my favorite type of villain but is basically a saint. She discusses bringing humanity to the more chaotic characters she plays and what she loves about making Christmas movies along with sharing the very sweet story of adopting one of her dogs.

Emmanuelle has such talent, from her delivery to her physicality to her voice, so I reveled in the chance to discover how she layers such heart into her characters, but we also dove deep on important personal matters, like why only OTHER kids had trampolines growing up.

Anna Elizabeth James | Strong Female Leads

Anna Elizabeth James Strong Female Leads

Anna Elizabeth James (writer/director of Deadly Illusions) has revived the psychosexual thriller genre with Deadly Illusions clocking in at #1 on Netflix and she GRACEd me with her presence on the show! Our conversation covered everything I've ever cared about, including how she crafted a thriller with heart, the absolutism of movie critics, and obviously, the milk bath. Deadly Illusions is a FEELING, as is this episode.

Deadly Illusions is coming to all platforms June 1st, including my beloved physical media, but you can watch now on Netflix!

Janet Varney | Strong Female Leads

Janet Varney Strong Female Leads

Janet Varney (The Legend of Korra, Country Comfort, Burning Love) is as kind as she is talented. Her conversational prowess is unrivaled, and she made me feel very supported in my secret wish to wear reflective aviators. In this episode, we dive into how wonderful it is to create something with your friends, the downsides of polyester pants in Georgia, and the satisfaction of a well-written sitcom.

Shalita Grant | Strong Female Leads

Shalita Grant Strong Female Leads

Shalita Grant (Search Party, You) is truly America's sweetheart. I learned so much about not just acting, but about life and myself from Shalita, who is so insightful in her self-reflection in addition to being absurdly gifted comedically. Shalita talks about not judging the characters she plays, the importance of collaboration in comedy, and building her haircare brand Four Naturals.

I am sorry I brought up Dave & Buster's to a Tony nominee... but not really, because like with everything else Shalita speaks on, she not only made me laugh but also educated me (in this instance on getting what you want!)

Jodi Lyn OKeefe Strong Female Leads

Jodi Lyn O'Keefe (She's All That, Prison Break, Hit the Floor) is a dream of a human being who lets me gush about my favorite roles of hers as I mathematically prove she has the best career — from being a comedy powerhouse to the perfect kind of villain — and she shares the romantic gesture to end all gestures, plus gives me even more reasons to adore Heretic Parfum. This show breaks down at points because I am laughing uncontrollably, what a joy!
